Title I Parent Announcement
2019-2020 School Year

Mission

To support the implementation of Nevada’s System of School Support in order to impact teaching and learning in K-12 classrooms so that educationally disadvantaged students achieve high academic success.

Program Description

Title I, under the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), provides financial assistance to local educational agencies to meet the needs of special educationally disadvantaged children at preschool, elementary, and secondary school levels. The purpose of Title I is to help all children achieve the state’s academic standards. This is accomplished through supplemental programs that consist of instructional services, instructional support services, school wide reform efforts, and increased involvement of parents in their children’s education.

BMS Parents-Ways to get involved

Parents can support their children’s schooling by attending school functions and responding to school obligations. (Parent-teacher conferences, Open House, concerts, for example).P

Parents can become more involved in helping their children improve their schoolwork by providing encouragement, arranging for appropriate study time and space, modeling desired behavior (such as reading for pleasure), monitoring homework, and actively tutoring their children at home.

Furthermore, the Burkholder Middle School faculty will provide ongoing training to assist parents in helping their child academically at home.

Outside the home, parents can serve as advocate for the school. Additionally, school-based clubs and organizations will continue to work with outside agencies and businesses through community service projects and career exploration initiates to increase communication and commitment to our school community.

Parents can volunteer to help out with school activities or work in the classroom i.e. Straight “A” BBQ, Straight “O” Ice Cream Social, 8th grade Promotion Ceremony, assist in graphic arts, school dances, and chaperone  field trips.

Wanna Be Part of the “PAC”

Parents can take an active role in the governance and decision making necessary for planning, developing, and providing a high quality education for their children. Parents are invited to actively participate on the various teams that govern the school and design plans that develop school goals and plans of action i.e., the School Improvement Team, Parent Advisory Committee (PAC), and the Parent Involvement Committee.

The PAC monthly meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 9a.m. to 10 a.m. in the principal’s conference room.  Check your monthly BMS Highlights Flyers for details on all upcoming events and activities. Click here for more information about PAC.

Burkholder Middle School Title I  Allocation

In support of innovation and the development of 21st century scholars the 2018-2019 Title I allocation funding will be used for the hiring of an instruction strategist, prep buyout for class size reduction, and the continuation of staff professional development and collaboration.

Every Student Succeeds Act
