Administration & Secretaries

Christopher Hermes

Principal (Math, Budget, Counselors, Facilities)

My teaching experience started in 1995 at Dell H. Robison Middle School, where I taught both Orchestra and an English/Reading recovery class. While I was there, I took an active role as a leader on different committees and coached girls basketball for five years. I was appointed to Dean of Students at Brinley Middle School in February 2005 and then moved to Bob Miller Middle School in 2007. While at both middle schools, I took every opportunity to learn and grow as a leader. In January 2008, I was named the Assistant Principal at Liberty High School where I became the curriculum administrator. Three years ago, I moved to Desert Oasis High School where I continued my role in curriculum. Both high schools during that time saw a rise in graduation rates and an increase in college and career readiness.

Eliza Perez

Assistant Principal (Curriculum & Testing, Special Education, Social Studies, Innovation Center, Registration)

My teaching experience started at William G. Bennett Elementary after receiving my dual Bachelor's in General and Special Education from NAU. Throughout my career, I received my Master's in Special Education from UNLV, took a leadership role as a coach and department chair, received my Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from NSU, and joined the Burkholder family as a facilitator. While serving as facilitator, I ensured students were supported academically and behaviorally through positive interventions by collecting, analyzing, and making decisions based on data collected, which led to increased achievement and decreased behavior school-wide. I am excited to continue my educational journey at Burkholder as an Assistant Principal and cannot wait to serve as an advocate for all school stakeholders!

Jessica Maleskey

Assistant Principal (Activities, Athletics, Attendance, ELA, Science, Performing Arts/Electives, PE, Student Success, Social Worker)

While originally from Southern California, Nevada is home for me. After I received my Bachelor’s from UNLV, I was hired as an English teacher at Liberty High School where I had the privilege to, not only share my love for learning and literature with my students, but I was also involved with and passionate about helping to collect, analyze, and respond to data to improve student achievement. After receiving my Master's in Educational Policy, in 2019, I became an Assistant Principal at Burkholder Middle School. I then went on to complete my Doctorate in Public Policy, in 2022, with a focus on providing legislative support for educators suffering from compassion fatigue. I am a big believer in the power of public education, and I subscribe to the philosophy of “servant leadership." I am dedicated to giving back to the community that has raised me and has given me so many wonderful opportunities, and I am thrilled to serve as a partner in your child’s education!
